Challenges ahead for Nepal

Following the Earthquake on the 25th of April, I immediately got word from my agent in Nepal (who has his office near KTM airport) that he and his family were safe. As of yesterday I learned that my Wool and Clothing suppliers’ families are all safe also. I have not heard from my Felt supplier’s family.

As of today the 29th April my agent has told me that they have still yet to see any relief supplies or action from international agencies. Indian land rescue have been working to excavate, transport and save people. He has spent a couple of nights camping without shelter in the street with his family and neighbours (whose homes were damaged). He was able to purchase a large tent to shelter 80 people and he has a smaller one where 15 people of his family have been sleeping for the last two nights.

Today the need is still for tents and lights. Food prices are rising rapidly out of control with no new food arriving. The immediate future needs to see large quantities of food shelter and water hit the ground and be distributed rapidly to provide relief and avoid further pain.

The current disaster has crippled a country that already faced massive humanitarian challenges. If you like and have appreciated the products that I sell here I urge you to support charities providing aid to Nepal.
